New sites

There is a small group of sites, on the right, wa-a-y down, known as “Other Important Sites”. In a way, it’s really the “Miscellaneous” list, except I hate miscellaneous anythings. So I think of it as that odd drawer in the kitchen that has everything in it from a screwdriver, the last 4 cupcake cups that didn’t get used last time and bread ties. Lots of bread ties.

I’m adding six new sites. Many may already know of them, some may not.

The first is poweroutage.us. A simple to use site that lets you see how many power outages are currently going on in the US. In poking around, I was surprised to see how many there are on a daily basis.

The second is is Downdetector. If you still have power but your cable TV, phone, Internet service or favorite online game isn’t working, you can check here to see what’s going on.

The third is Homeland Security Today, a website that caters to government-employed security types.

The fourth is GlobalSecurity.org. As they say, “Si vis pacem, para bellum – you may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you”. Boy howdy.

The fifth is AlertsUSA. It’s a subscription service, and it isn’t inexpensive. I pay for a subscription-it’s quite useful.

The sixth is Threat Journal. This is an affiliated site of AlertsUSA, and they give it away. You just don’t get things immediately. You get a lot of news that never makes the major media or the online sites.

Forewarned is forearmed.
