Another slapdown so soon?

You know, you’d think that The Powers That Be in DC would be able to figure out that the Supreme Court means what it says, but perhaps I overestimate their intelligence:

In a complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court, Dick Heller and two other plaintiffs allege that the city’s new gun regulations still violate rights guaranteed under the Constitution.

The lawsuit cites the District of Columbia’s unusual ban on firearms that carry more than 12 rounds of ammunition, which includes most semiautomatic handguns.

The suit also claims that the city’s regulations make it all but impossible for residents to keep a gun ready for immediate self defense in the home.

Given the pretty clear wording of the decision and the wording of the new DC law, I expect Mr. Heller toeventuallywin again. It may take some time, but in the end, I think he has a very good chance of administering another well-deserved spanking to Mayor Fenty. But it’s a pity he has to make a hobby of suing the District of Columbia. At this rate, the poor guy will never get any range time!

In the meantime, don’t forget to keep an eye on the San Francisco and Chicago lawsuits, which are tailored to force the question of incorporation. That’s going to be the Next Big Thing in this fight.
