Bear in mind that title should be read as caustic sarcasm.
I’ve been listening, probably rather obsessively, to the W4HTP ham radio repeater via a Broadcastify feed. Those guys are doing some yeoman’s work. But yesterday I heard a few things that made my ears perk up and my vision tinge red, the main one being that Asheville, the big deep blue city in the dark red mountains, had gotten a shipment of water and food. It was being distributed that afternoon–at three locations near the downtown. The heck with you rednecks out in the wilds of Swannanoa or the rest of Buncombe County.
Then last night, I ran into this video.
This morning, this little item crossed my path. Pardon the image, I had to screen-capture capture on my cell phone.
I’m from the government and I’m here to help you. The rest of you, get off our yard.
For the first 48 hours, other than some local government efforts, mostly by fire and police, the government was AWOL. It’s not a shock if you’ve ever lived through or closely followed their response to any major disaster.
But how dare you proles organize yourselves and help your neighbors. You know, like this lady has done.
She’s right–there are going to be people who’ll have to answer for this.
In the credit where’s it due, today the goobermint is getting some supplies into the area. And I know that often the well-meaning can clog up the works in various ways. But still.
Now I’m going to give Samaritan’s Purse some more money.
Please keep us informed. We’ve seen multiple reports that help is being turned away, like that helicopter pilot. Thanks for the update. Please post if you hear more on the ham radio contact.
