Every time I write a “Life in the time of Wuflu” post, I feel like it can’t get any worse. And every time, I’m wrong.
Let’s get the easy stuff out of the way first. Spot shortages continue in the stores. Cleaning supplies are still missing in action. Paper products are short everywhere. Random food items will be out-it’s especially fun when it’s supposed to have been a sale item. People get sort of ticked about that.
Gasoline isn’t out or even in short supply, but prices are acting crazy. 87 octane is $1.86 at Station A, while less than a mile away at station B, it’s $2.30. Until tomorrow, when everyone raises the price a dime, holding it there for a few days, then dropping it 7-8 cents per gallon.
Smells like supply chain stress to me.
In local news, BLM and Antifa wins another round. The “local” chapter (from a big-ish city, 45 minutes away) of the United Daughters of the Confederacy have, as widely predicted, rolled over, made a deal and our Confederate memorial statue will be “temporarily moved for safety reasons” and “eventually be relocated out of town”. I predict it will never be seen in public again. Be assured, this is only the first step. These “people” are pursuing a well-known playbook. Since their opposition caved, they’ll be back for more. Speculation is rampant on what the “more” will be.
It seems that campaign signs from our early election sites around the county are disappearing in broad daylight. I replaced signs at two of six sites today for the Republican candidates for President, governor, lieutenant governor and US senate. This kind of boldness concerns me. I don’t like bold enemies.
Now, at the risk of giving away more about my location than I’d like, I’m going to present this. It isn’t exactly Wuflu related, but I am waiting for The Powers That Be to eventually try to use that, at least in part, as an excuse for their failures. In February of this year, a local 17-year-old, Nicholas Allen, went missing. A few days ago, a dive team from Oregon found him in the place his mother had begged local law enforcement to search.
We had to bring in a private dive team from across the country to find this kid, right where his mom said he was. This makes me incredibly proud of our local law enforcement. (Yes, that’s sarcasm.) The half-baked apology from the High Sheriff (first comment; seems to be pinned to the top-you’ll actually have to go to YouTube to see it) doesn’t make me feel better. It makes me feel like the voters elected the wrong guy. For the record, I voted against him in the primaries, but for him in the election as “less bad than the alternative”.
Slightly less bad, it seems. I’ll do my damnedest not to vote for him again, assuming we ever have more elections after this year.
You can watch the first couple of minutes to get the setting, and then skip in to 30 minutes.
This video was brought to my attention by someone visiting the local Republican Party HQ, where I was working Thursday afternoon. I had heard about the kid finally being found, but I wasn’t aware of the full circumstances until I watched this.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve seen failures of local law enforcement at a number of levels. I’ve heard a lot of stories about law enforcement “playing favorites” and differentially enforcing the law. I really didn’t want to believe that, despite my first-hand knowledge that law enforcement in this county has been a hot mess for decades. Yeah, I’m stupid like that.
I’m also pretty pissed. I’m a father, and there but for the Grace of God go I. I’ve had the moment of horror when the doorbell rang in the evening, with my daughter out with her boyfriend, and I found a state trooper standing there with his hat in his hands. I am so thankful that he was there to see my son over something stupid he’d done. I could have strangled the kid, not so much for what he did and his failure to tell us, but because I knew in my heart that his sister was dead.
These people have been put through hell, in part by a law enforcement agency that seems to not give a damn-for whatever reason. What were these people thinking? Are they so sure of themselves that they can’t be bothered-that the kid “was in Georgia with his girlfriend”?
Wuflu has simply accelerated a process that has been going on for a while. This rotten edifice we’ve built is going to cave in of its own weight, sooner or later. Be prepared, and be one of the folks that reaches the other side and rebuilds a better country.
