I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts and doing a lot of reading of late. There is a thread that has been going through a lot of the things I’ve listened to and read that we need to consider: normalcy bias.
Sound like anyone you know? I’m afraid it sounds like Mrs. Freeholder much of the time. It sounds like a lot of my neighbors. Even Son has a dose of it.
We are in a situation where normalcy bias can get you injured or killed. For those of us who are concealed carriers, all the training we’ve had over the years has been rendered obsolete in the last 30 days. Michael Bane has a great podcast episode on that this week.
I wish he had a great answer on what to do about it.
We are faced with an enemy who currently has us out-maneuvered. We are in danger of being cut off and defeated in detail. We can have all the memes we want (and I’m guilty of that as well), but memes aren’t an effective solution to an enemy who has been working toward this for, apparently, years if not decades. They know just how far they can push and we won’t go to our guns, because we don’t want to be arrested.
They, on the other hand, do not care how many useful idiots get killed.
We need to change how we think and therefore, our limits. Eaton Rapids Joe has a bit on this here. Scroll down to “Guilt by association”. When the bricks and Molotov cocktails start flying, we may not be able to identify the actual thrower. Might we need to simply start a massacre of the entire crowd they’re in? Not a nice thought, but you’d better start considering what you’d do in that situation.
Or how about this situation-a neighbor decides to gin up a protest against you on sketchy grounds. They’re on your property in numbers. You’re trapped inside your home, but you’re armed. They call the cops and you’re the one who gets arrested. Can you think of a way to handle the situation without getting arrested?
I mentioned in Part 22 of this far-too-long-running series that the bitty burg I live near has had an escalation in the level of violence involving our shipped in BLM communists. It took about 3 months to get to this first incident where there was some actual, though minimal, violence and some arrests. It will not be 3 months before the next one. We’ll be lucky if it’s 3 weeks. I figure it will be worse as well.
I’m thinking of hurricane film for all the windows of my house. That is far less than the steel shutters I’d like to have and far more than Mrs. Freeholder is likely willing to do. I’ll do a couple of windows each day while she’s at work. I can get forgiven later. I’m also going to speed up, as much as I can, things like cameras and exterior (driveway-type) alarms.
There are not going to be enough working hours in my days for a while. It’s time to start putting in place plans for the unthinkable.
Because the other side is sure thinking about it.
