Shamelessly stolen from the Intertubz today. |
Today was my first trip out since last Saturday. I had a chiropractor appointment in a nearby town. While this wasn’t zero risk, I’ve been going to that practice for some time an I know they’re reasonably good on hygiene. I also had to hit the big-box home improvement store and, once back in my own burg, the drug store.
FWIW, the visit went well. It seems some of my plantar fasciitis issue in the left foot may be caused by that long-time pinched sciatic nerve. Some adjustments were made and it’s feeling better. I’ll know more after I’m on it a bit tomorrow.
What did I notice during the trip?
Gas is getting stupidly cheap. I saw $1.34/gallon for 87 octane. In my burg it’s more expensive. The lowest I saw was $1.64.
Traffic is off, but not as much as you would expect with a stay at home order in place. Too many “essential” businesses. Still, it was like driving 25 years ago, except the people on the road were still as poor drivers as just before the Wuflu.
Big-box home improvement place was crowded. The town has no proper hardware store and I believe no proper lumber yards, so this place gets all that business from the trades and local folks just screwing up home projects themselves. 99% of the people have definitely gotten the message on social distancing and were keeping proper combat intervals. Store had staggered “Wait Here” markers on the floors at the checkouts and sneeze shields for the cashiers. Frequent announcements on the PA to maintain your social distance. This was the riskiest stop I made. Unfortunately it was a necessary one. Things break and need fixing, and despite all the stuff I had around here, I didn’t have a diverter valve for the hall bath shower.
Hit a drive-thru for lunch and ate at the still-open golf course parking lot. I wish I hadn’t screwed up my back, because I miss playing golf. Even though I had sanitized my hands before leaving the big-box, I sanitized them before I ate.
Back in the burg, the drug store had a line all the way down the building for the prescription drive-thru. Apparently no one was interested in going inside. I sure wasn’t.
Back home, I carried everything in, then wiped down everything in the truck I’d touched with sanitizing wipes that are supposed to kill coronavirii. I didn’t try to sanitize all the stuff I bought. For now it’s sitting in its bags, and it may do that for a few days.
No trip to a grocery store. We only need bacon bits, and Amazon still delivers.
Last Sunday we had the kids over for supper. That may be the last of those for a while. They’re still working, so they’re more at risk of picking something up. That’s a risk we’re probably going to have to mitigate. I’d rather not stop the meals, but with 35 cases in the county and the local band-aid shop starting to empty the ICU, it seems prudent.
Son-in-law’s mom is a surgery nurse in said band-aid shop. That where we found out the news about the ICU and that all elective surgeries are being postponed. She’s on two day weeks for now because of that.
Foot Doc’s office called, that appointment is now delayed until mid-May.
Just another day in the time of Wuflu.
