I’m not going to whine about it. We all know that the men and women who made up the “Greatest Generation” are leaving us an an ever faster pace. I’d just like to acknowledge a couple who left us on Christmas Eve.
Jack Klugman. What can I say? I was like every other kid and watched TV all the time. “The Odd Couple”, “Quincy”–it’s had to think of the 70s without thinking of him at some point.
Charles Durning. Sure, he starred in one of my all time favorite shows, “Evening Shade”, but his true claim to fame was something he never talked about–his service in Europe in World War II. The sole survivor of his unit on D-Day, he also survived the Malmedy Massacre.
Amazing men who led amazing lives, and we’re better for having had them around. God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen, indeed.
