EMP–Electromagnetic Pulse. A phenomena normally associated with nuclear bombs, his one’s been a hotly discussed topic among preppers for a long time. There’s so much stuff out there that it’s hard to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Enter Jerry Emanuelson, an electrical engineer, with his site Futurescience and in particular, his work on EMP–what it is, what the effects might be and how to protect against it.
Of course, I can’t tell you if he’s wheat or chaff, but I do have some very basic knowledge of electronics and electricity, and based on that, he does make sense–and he’s kind enough to point you toward a myriad number of other information sources where you can do you own research.
The subject is particularly interesting right now, since old Sol has been a bit crotchety of late, spitting and sputtering all over the local cosmos. You see, exploding a nuclear device isn’t the only way to get an EMP to occur. So get busy and make a few tin foil hats for your emergency radios. You might be glad you did.
