“Wolf at the door” wasn’t always just a turn of phrase

There are reasons that our ancestors hunted and killed large predators. From the predator’s perspective, we look like lunch:

Mark Patterson kicked, choked and wrestled a cougar to rescue a 12-year-old boy from the jaws of the big cat at a resort camp in south-central British Columbia.

Note that the BC conservation officers shot and killed the dangerous critter. In the US, the wildlife officers would probably blamed the kid for being in the cougar’s habitat.
