I’m starting to get worried about the nomination of Judge John Roberts for the Supreme Court. Not only isAnn Coulter concerned about him, but Sen. Robert Byrd (D-KKK) isthanking President Bush for this appointment! (Link from Drudge.)
“I thank President Bush for reaching out to senators on both sides of the aisle as he worked to select a nominee for the court,” Mr. Byrd said. “I hope that this bipartisan cooperation will continue as the confirmation process begins.”Given the level of invective that Byrd has leveled at the President in the past, this is an astounding change in tone. Such things raise red flags, as far as I’m concerned.
Coulter’s point, that this guy has gone his entire life, including years in the DC area, without being controversial, is something worth considering as well. It’s also coming out that he is disassociating himself with certain positions he has argued for in the past, such as the briefs he wrote while Deputy Solicitor General. This means that we can’t necessarily trust anything he’s written–perhaps not even decisions he’s rendered.
I’m getting the beginnings of a suspicion–we’re getting sold down the river again.
