You mean mine isn’t bigger than yours?

It would seem the cops don’t like competition, at least on the Taser front.

Salient quotes:

Private citizens can now own a Taser that packs as much punch as the ones that police officers carry, a move that has many in law enforcement more than a little worried.

Why am I not surprised? Maybe because a lot of police professional organizations opposed lapsing the AWB?

However, those in law enforcement say they worry about citizens having their hands on this new type of weapon.

“It’s untested here in the state of Oregon, so we don’t know what’s going to happen when a citizen deploys it,” Deputy Paul McRedmond with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office told KATU News. “It is not a quick-draw weapon,” he warns. “It is a decision-making weapon.”

Untested? I guess no PD in Oregon has Tasers? Hard to believe. And what is a “decision-making weapon”? Enquiring minds want to know…

“If you point a Taser at an officer, a law enforcement officer, we may use deadly force upon you.”

I’m not sure whether to issue a “Well, duh!” or what. Is he trying to scare potential purchasers? Overselling his objections? Dipping into the evidence locker?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not out to get the cops. They have a crappy job, and by-and-large do a good job at it. But this kind of attitude isn’t going to endear them to me. It ranks right up there with the habit, acquired lately, of calling all us non-LEOs “civilians”.
