Family diary tells story of kindnesses given soldier held in Civil War prison
Here we have an interesting (and interestingly enough, unbiased) story about a woman’s voyage of discovery into her Confederate heritage. DeWitt Clinton Thomas is another of the Heros of the South, but rather than an unknown hero, he left his words and thoughts behind in a journal, which his great-great-niece Bertha Shiplet is preserving. I hope she makes it available in some form.
Considering that it comes from someone who lived the events, it can’t help but be more accurate than the tripe our kids are served in the government “schools” today.
